At Adoption Cumbria, we believe that every child deserves a loving, stable home where they can thrive. If you’ve ever wondered whether adoption could be part of your story, the answer might surprise you — there’s no single “perfect” type of adopter. What matters most is your ability to provide a safe, nurturing environment for a child.
You Don’t Need to Be Perfect — Just Committed.
Life isn’t about ticking boxes, and neither is adoption. People from all walks of life can adopt. Whether you’re single, married, in a civil partnership, or living with a partner, you can apply. What matters is that you can offer love, security, and patience.
Age and Background
You need to be over 21, but there’s no upper age limit. Your background, ethnicity, or religion won’t stop you from adopting. Diversity is a strength — children need families who reflect the world around them.
Home and Lifestyle
You don’t need a big house or lots of money. What’s important is that you have space for a child and the time to care for them. If you rent your home, that’s absolutely fine too.
Health and Support
Good physical and emotional health helps you meet a child’s needs, but having a disability or health condition doesn’t rule you out. We’ll work with you to understand what support you might need. We are unable to assess anyone who currently smokes or vapes tobacco products.
Experience with Children
If you’ve raised children or worked with them, that’s great — but it’s not essential. We provide training and ongoing support to help you feel confident and prepared.

We are unable to assess anyone with a criminal conviction against children.
