Support for LGBTQ+ Adopters
We warmly welcome LGBTQ+ individuals and couples to explore our inclusive adoption support services, where every family is valued, respected, and supported on their unique journey.

Adoption Cumbria is a member of New Family Social and therefore our LGBTQ+ adopters can take advantage of the support they offer for free.
LGBTQ+ adopters approved by Adoption Cumbria will gain Gold membership, once we have verified your status as an adopter with the Agency.
The support available includes:
- Invitations to online and in-person events such as adults-only nights out, activities with the children, expert webinars and online social evenings. There are also online events for Gold members with particular interests or characteristics, such as the solo members group, the group for members who are neurodiverse or who parent neurodiverse children and the trans members group.
- Peer support in your pocket via a WhatsApp groups for LGBTQ+ adopters and foster carers across the UK
- Access to the Connect service which offers online peer support
- Access to a Peer mentoring service that pairs LGBTQ+ members new to adoption with others who've been on the journey longer
- Weekly emails curating adoption/fostering news or announcements from New Family Social
- Online members' directory allowing contact with other LGBTQ+ adopters local to you
- Invitation to volunteer or attend New Family Social summer camp
- Mediation support if issues relating to the member's sexual orientation or gender identity arise between the member and their agency
